Women’s Driving Licenses Surge by 42% in 2025 Across Punjab

The Punjab Traffic Police has released detailed data showing a significant increase in driving license issuance to women during 2026, following special directives aimed at improving access and convenience.

According to instructions issued by Muhammad Waqas Nazir, the process of issuing driving licenses to women was accelerated, resulting in more than 248,000 women availing licensing services during the year.

Sharp Year-on-Year Increase

Officials reported that 42% more women obtained driving licenses in 2026 compared to the previous year, highlighting growing awareness, confidence, and accessibility for female drivers.

Breakdown of Licenses Issued

Data shows a diverse range of licenses issued to women in 2026:

  • Car driving licenses: Over 183,000

  • Motorcycle licenses: Around 61,000

  • LTV licenses: 1,833

  • Rickshaw licenses: 240

  • Heavy commercial licenses: 150

Authorities also confirmed that:

  • Women accounted for 86% of motorcycle licenses

  • 32% of car licenses were issued to female applicants

  • More than 10,000 women obtained duplicate licenses

  • Over 77,000 women renewed their driving licenses

  • More than 2,000 women secured commercial driving licenses

Licensing at the Doorstep

To further facilitate women, Pink Licensing Vans were deployed to provide doorstep services, reducing travel and waiting time.

Special Women Enclave Centers have been established at:

  • Abshaar, Lahore

  • Gujranwala

These centers offer a women-friendly environment for testing and documentation.

Economic Empowerment Through Licensing

Officials noted that the issuance of commercial driving licenses has opened new employment opportunities for women, especially in transport and ride-hailing services.

DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir stated that millions of women have also benefited from online licensing services, making the system more transparent and accessible.

Traffic police officials say the rising number of licensed women drivers reflects changing social norms, improved facilities, and targeted policy measures, with further improvements planned in the coming year.
