The duration of the ongoing socio-economic survey has been extended by three months, triggering concern among teachers across Punjab who are currently assigned survey duties.
Nearly 12,000 teachers are involved in conducting the survey. Initially, the task was scheduled to be completed by December 31, but authorities have now extended the deadline to March 31.

Teachers’ Union Demands Withdrawal of Duties
The Punjab Teachers Union has demanded that teachers be relieved from survey responsibilities, arguing that the extension clashes with the academic calendar.
Union representatives pointed out that annual examinations will begin in March, raising concerns over whether teachers will be able to balance survey work and classroom teaching effectively.
Fear of Academic Impact
Teachers have warned that academic performance could suffer if survey duties continue during exam preparations. They added that poor exam results often lead to disciplinary action against teachers, despite workload pressures beyond their control.
The union has urged the education authorities to reconsider the decision and prioritize students’ learning during the critical examination period.
