Pakistan’s premier fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been declared fully fit and is available for selection for the upcoming Australia series, while also remaining in contention for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, according to sources close to the team management.
The left-arm pacer recently underwent a fitness assessment, which he successfully cleared. The test, conducted around two days ago, delivered satisfactory results and eased concerns surrounding his recent knee injury, which had sidelined him during his stint in the Big Bash League (BBL).

Injury Sustained During Big Bash League
Shaheen Afridi sustained the injury last month while representing Brisbane Heat in a BBL match against the Adelaide Strikers. The incident occurred during the Strikers’ run chase when Shaheen appeared uncomfortable after completing the 14th over.
He was seen pointing towards his right knee before limping off the field and was subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the tournament as a precautionary measure.
Return to Bowling and Training Progress
As part of his recovery process, Shaheen has resumed bowling in the nets and was recently observed training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Sources indicate that he bowled with strong rhythm, pace, and control, suggesting that he has regained full match fitness.
Team officials are reportedly satisfied with his progress, viewing his return as a major positive ahead of Pakistan’s demanding international schedule.
T20 World Cup Availability No Longer in Doubt
Shaheen Afridi was earlier named in Pakistan’s preliminary squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup, submitted to the ICC with a conditional note regarding his fitness. However, following his successful clearance, his availability for the global event is no longer considered a concern.
His fitness comes as a significant boost for Pakistan, as Shaheen remains a key figure in the team’s pace attack, especially in high-pressure tournaments and overseas conditions.
