Authorities have announced a two-day closure of educational institutions in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and northern regions due to intense cold weather and heavy snowfall, which has severely disrupted daily life.
According to local administration officials, schools in Azad Kashmir will remain closed for two days as a precautionary measure. Educational institutions are scheduled to reopen on Monday, January 26, subject to weather conditions.
Heavy Snowfall in Upper Regions of AJK
Intermittent snowfall continues in several high-altitude areas of Azad Kashmir, including Hattian Bala, Chonari, Chakothi, Leepa Valley, Ganga Choti, Arang Kel, and Sargan Valley. Meanwhile, lower areas are experiencing persistent rainfall, further increasing the risk of landslides and road blockages.
Life Disrupted, Roads Blocked in Northern Areas
In the northern regions, heavy snowfall has badly affected normal life, leading to the closure of multiple roads. Several tourist routes have been blocked, leaving tourists stranded, while many remote areas have become completely cut off.
Tragically, two people lost their lives in separate incidents related to the harsh weather conditions, according to official reports.
Severe Weather Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Mansehra, Galiyat, Shangla, Lower Dir, Mohmand, Kalam, Orakzai, Chitral, and Khyber, are also witnessing heavy snowfall.
In Khyber district, nearly 100 vehicles were stranded due to snow-covered roads. However, authorities confirmed that 35 people were safely shifted to secure locations through rescue efforts.
Authorities Urge Caution
Local administrations have urged residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel, follow official advisories, and remain cautious until weather conditions improve. Emergency services remain on high alert across affected regions.
