The federal government of Pakistan has announced a major welfare decision for the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) by extending the Sehat Sahulat Card program until the fiscal year 2027.
The decision was approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, ensuring that eligible families in both regions will continue to receive free medical treatment at selected public and private hospitals across Pakistan.

Free Healthcare Access for Remote and Mountainous Areas
According to government sources, the extension aims to address the long-standing healthcare challenges faced by people living in remote, mountainous, and border areas. Due to limited medical infrastructure in these regions, access to quality healthcare has remained a major concern.
With the continuation of the Sehat Card program, deserving families will be able to receive timely and quality medical treatment without any financial burden, a move widely welcomed by residents of AJK and GB.
Relief for Low-Income Families and Health System Stability
Officials stated that extending the health card program will provide significant relief to low-income and middle-class families, while also reducing pressure on provincial health funds. The initiative will help maintain continuity in healthcare services and improve overall system efficiency.
The program’s extension is expected to play a key role in improving health outcomes, particularly for patients requiring specialized or emergency treatment.
Federal Commitment to AJK and GB
The federal government reaffirmed that the welfare of AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan residents remains a top priority. The extension of the Sehat Sahulat Program until 2027 is being viewed as a symbol of strong federal commitment, mutual trust, and long-term support for these regions.
By ensuring access to modern medical facilities nationwide, the initiative is set to enhance the quality of life for thousands of families living in Pakistan’s most underserved areas.
