Following the sighting of the Sha’ban moon in Pakistan, the expected start date of Ramadan 2026 has been revealed. Today, 21 January 2026, marks the first day of Sha’ban, the month preceding Ramadan.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is considered highly sacred. Muslims observe fasts from dawn (Sehar) to sunset (Iftar), abstaining from food, drink, and worldly desires. It is a time for self-reflection, prayer, charity, and strengthening faith, culminating in the festive celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr. Preparations and anticipation for Ramadan usually begin in the preceding month of Rajab.

The exact start of Ramadan depends on the length of Sha’ban, which may be either 29 or 30 days:

The Central Ru’yat-e-Hilal Committee will make the final announcement after moon sighting reports and witness verification at the end of Sha’ban.
