Weather conditions across Pakistan have taken a dramatic turn, with rain, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and snowfall forecast in multiple regions, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The Met Office reports that western weather systems are actively affecting the country, bringing widespread rain and a significant drop in temperatures, particularly in northern and mountainous areas.

Lahore: Rain Likely as Cold Intensifies
Despite intermittent sunshine, cold conditions persist in Lahore, with chilly winds blowing at a speed of 8 km/h. The city’s current temperature stands at 9°C.
According to PMD, there is a 70–80 percent chance of rain in Lahore today, which could further intensify the cold spell. Meanwhile, air pollution has reached alarming levels, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 340, placing Lahore among the top three most polluted cities globally.
Some localities reported extremely high pollution levels, including:
-
Civil Secretariat: 569 AQI
-
Barki Road: 296 AQI
-
Allama Iqbal Town: 217 AQI
-
Model Town: 200 AQI
Karachi: Rain Expected, Temperatures to Drop Further
Karachi is also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall starting today, with a noticeable drop in temperatures expected from tomorrow. The PMD says the city may experience single-digit temperatures again within the next two to four days.
Currently, Karachi’s temperature is 14°C, while today’s maximum is expected to remain between 25°C and 27°C. Humidity levels are high at 90 percent, and the city ranks seventh among the world’s most polluted cities, with an AQI of 193.
Islamabad: Rain and Hailstorm Alert Issued
In the federal capital, rain accompanied by thunderstorms and possible hailstorms is expected today. Morning hours will remain cold with partial cloud cover, while heavy rain is forecast after noon.
The minimum temperature in Islamabad has been recorded at 5°C, and intermittent rainfall may continue over the next 48 hours, increasing the risk of localized hailstorms during evening and night hours.
Snowfall Disrupts Life in Northern Balochistan
Meanwhile, the season’s first snowfall has been recorded in northern Balochistan, including areas such as Chaman, Khojak, Ziarat, Pishin, Toba Kakri, Khanozai, Kan Mehtarzai, and Khwaja Imran.
Snow accumulation of up to four inches has led to the closure of several national highways, causing severe travel disruptions. Locals have expressed concern over the lack of immediate response from district authorities and PDMA.
Nationwide Weather Outlook
The PMD further predicts:
-
Heavy rain and snowfall in Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir
-
Intermittent rain in Islamabad, Punjab, and Sindh
Citizens are advised to take precautionary measures, especially in areas prone to snowfall, landslides, and poor air quality
