The Punjab government has decided to further expand its flagship housing initiative, “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar”, setting an ambitious target to construct 160,000 houses by June 2026, offering major relief to low- and middle-income families across the province.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the expansion as part of a broader vision to promote social stability, family cohesion, and affordable housing in Punjab.

Special Relief for Joint Family System
In a move described as socially transformative, the Punjab government has extended the program to joint families, introducing the concept of “Sanjhay Chulhay, Sanjhay Veharay aur Apni Chhat Bhi Sanjhi”.
Under this initiative, joint families will be eligible for interest-free loans on easy installments to expand existing homes, helping preserve the traditional joint family system while supporting modern housing needs.
Interest-Free Loans and Free Land for the Landless
The Chief Minister has also approved the issuance of interest-free loans for home expansion, ensuring affordability for deserving families.
Additionally, citizens without land ownership will be provided free plots along with interest-free loans to build their homes under the “Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar” scheme. Approval has been granted for the allocation of 1,534 residential plots across Punjab.
First Phase Plot Distribution Details
In the first phase, plots will be distributed through balloting in the following districts:
-
Jhelum: 194 plots
-
Kasur: 129 plots
-
Faisalabad: 84 plots
-
Lodhran: 59 plots
The Chief Minister has directed authorities to conduct the balloting process at the earliest to ensure timely relief.
Strong Progress and High Recovery Rate
Officials revealed that the program has already shown remarkable progress. Over 1.88 million users have registered, while more than 1.06 million applications have been submitted.
So far, 67,197 houses have been completed, and 53,843 homes are currently under construction. The government has disbursed Rs 164.66 billion in historic interest-free loans, maintaining an impressive 99% recovery rate.
CM Maryam Nawaz has also instructed officials to release the second installment promptly and formulate a special policy for families of deceased beneficiaries, ensuring continued support.
