In a major relief for citizens, the Punjab government has announced a local public holiday in Lahore on February 6 on the occasion of Basant, allowing residents to fully enjoy the traditional celebrations in a safe and organized manner.
According to sources, the district administration had recommended the holiday, which was subsequently approved by the Punjab government. As a result, Lahore residents will enjoy four consecutive holidays, including Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, creating a long weekend.
Officials stated that Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday were already regular off days, while the provincial government decided to declare Friday as an additional holiday. The move aims to reduce traffic congestion and ensure public safety during Basant festivities.
Safety Guidelines Issued for Basant Celebrations
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner Lahore has directed that children under the age of 18 should celebrate Basant only in the presence of their families, ensuring safety and discipline during the festival.
The district administration assured that all relevant departments will remain active to maintain law and order, ensuring that Basant celebrations take place peacefully and without any untoward incidents.
Authorities emphasized that the government is committed to providing a secure environment so citizens can enjoy the cultural festival without fear.
