Authorities in Kuwait and Oman have officially announced a public holiday on January 18 in observance of Shab-e-Meraj (Isra and Meraj). However, the occasion will not be marked as a public holiday in the United Arab Emirates.
Shab-e-Meraj is a sacred night for Muslims around the world and is observed on the 27th of Rajab, 1447 AH, according to the Islamic calendar. The night holds deep religious significance as it commemorates the miraculous journey and ascension of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Religious Significance
According to Islamic tradition, on this night the Prophet (PBUH) was taken on a miraculous journey from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem, followed by the ascension through the heavens. The event is regarded as one of the most important spiritual milestones in Islamic history.
This year, Shab-e-Meraj falls on January 16 according to the Gregorian calendar. While Kuwait and Oman have chosen to mark the occasion with an official holiday on January 18, authorities in the UAE have clarified that it will be observed without a public holiday.
Muslims across the region are expected to observe the night through special prayers, religious gatherings, and spiritual reflection, regardless of official holiday status.
