The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public warning regarding a growing number of fraudulent calls and messages originating from fake or spoofed UAN numbers.
According to the authority, scammers are increasingly impersonating officials from PTA, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), banks, and mobile wallet services such as Easypaisa and JazzCash in an attempt to extract personal and financial information from unsuspecting citizens.

PTA stated that fraudsters often use intimidation tactics, threatening victims with SIM deactivation, bank account suspension, or mobile wallet blockage. These individuals may contact victims via phone calls, SMS, or WhatsApp messages, asking for one-time passwords (OTPs), CNIC numbers, PINs, or biometric details.
PTA Advisory to the Public
The authority has strongly emphasized that no government institution, bank, or financial service provider ever requests sensitive information through calls, messages, or links.
Citizens are advised to:
-
Never share OTPs, PINs, CNIC numbers, or biometric information
-
Avoid clicking on suspicious links sent via SMS or messaging apps
-
Immediately disconnect calls demanding urgent personal or financial details
How to Report Scam Calls
PTA has urged the public to report such incidents promptly through official channels. Complaints can be submitted via the PTA CMS Complaint Portal, while cyber fraud cases can also be reported to NCCIA through its official complaint system to enable swift legal action against scammers.
Authorities stressed that public awareness and timely reporting are critical to preventing financial losses and stopping the spread of telecom-related fraud.
