Prices of Daily Essentials Surge Ahead of Ramadan

Even before the start of Ramadan, prices of essential food items have seen a sharp increase, putting additional pressure on household budgets.

Vegetables and Staples Become Costlier

In recent days, noticeable price hikes have been observed in vegetables, fruits, and grocery items.

  • Tomatoes increased by Rs. 40 per kg, now selling at Rs. 120
  • Potatoes rose from Rs. 40 to Rs. 50 per kg
  • Gram flour (besan) climbed from Rs. 320 to Rs. 350 per kg

Oil, Ghee, and Bread Prices Up

Cooking oil and ghee have also become more expensive:

  • Premium category increased from Rs. 580 to Rs. 600 per kg
  • Lower category rose from Rs. 510 to Rs. 530 per kg

Tandoor items saw a sudden jump:

  • Roti and naan now Rs. 25
  • Khameeri naan Rs. 30
  • Kulcha Rs. 35
  • Paratha and roghni naan Rs. 60

Tea and Eggs Also Affected

Hotels raised tea prices from Rs. 60 to Rs. 70 per cup.
Desi eggs increased by Rs. 30 per dozen, now at Rs. 500.

Fruit Prices Climb

  • Apples moved from Rs. 150 to Rs. 200 per kg

  • Bananas increased from Rs. 140 to Rs. 180 per dozen

Public Concern Growing

With Ramadan around the corner, consumers are worried about further increases, as demand traditionally rises during the holy month.
