Pakistan has taken a major step toward the launch of 5G services, as the federal government has decided to conduct the 5G spectrum auction during Ramadan 2026.
According to official sources, the government plans to roll out 5G services in major cities within six months of the auction. Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja confirmed that preparations for the long-awaited auction are nearing completion.

Speaking on the development, the IT minister said efforts are underway to finalize the auction process by the end of February, adding that improvements in 3G and 4G services are expected within three to four months after the auction.
She further stated that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is actively consulting stakeholders on quality of service standards and rollout conditions to ensure a smooth transition to next-generation connectivity.
Telecom companies have been given three weeks to finalize their preparations for the auction. After consultations, the Information Memorandum is expected to be finalized in the first week of February.
Officials believe the launch of 5G will significantly boost digital connectivity, support innovation, and strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy, especially in urban centers.
