Diesel Price Hike Forces Fare Increase Malik Shahzad Awan stated that due to the increase in petroleum prices, particularly diesel, transporters have been left with no option but to raise fares by 4 percent. “An increase in petroleum prices affects every Pakistani,” he said, adding that transporters are being pushed against the wall by both the federal and Punjab governments. Government Accused of Breaking Promises The PGTA president claimed that during the recent transporters’ strike, the federal government had assured them of a reduction in petroleum prices, but those promises were not fulfilled. He further alleged that several agreements made with the federal and Punjab governments remain unimplemented. Malik Shahzad Awan also said that assurances given by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan are not being accepted by the Motorway Police.
