Oman has introduced stricter entry requirements for foreign workers, warning of tough action against individuals who submit fraudulent or forged educational and professional documents.
Under the country’s professional accreditation system, expatriate workers will now be required to verify their academic and professional qualifications before entering Oman. Authorities have made it clear that any attempt to use fake certificates will lead to serious legal consequences.
Speaking on the matter, Zahir bin Abdullah Al Sheikh, Director of Professional Standards at Oman’s Ministry of Labour, said the new measures are aimed at regulating the labour market, preventing credential fraud, and raising workforce standards across key industries.
The updated system applies to expatriates seeking employment in regulated professions, including engineering, logistics, accounting, and other skilled sectors. Applicants must now complete a pre-arrival assessment, with their qualifications reviewed and approved through designated sectoral skills units.
Under the revised process, a work practice licence will only be issued after successful verification of credentials. Entry permits will be granted only after the licence has been approved, closing loopholes that previously allowed unverified workers to enter the country.
Authorities warned that violations could result in employment bans, financial penalties, licence cancellation, deportation, and court proceedings. Employers found facilitating or ignoring such violations will also face accountability under the new enforcement framework.
The move reflects Oman’s broader push to strengthen labour governance and ensure that only qualified and verified professionals enter the country’s workforce.
