Duffy’s Breakthrough Year
At 31 years old, Jacob Duffy makes his World Cup debut after a remarkable year in international cricket. He claimed 81 wickets in 2026, breaking Sir Richard Hadlee’s long-standing record of 79 wickets in a calendar year. His rise also saw him reach No. 2 in the ICC T20 bowling rankings, cementing his place among the world’s leading white-ball bowlers.
Duffy joins a strong pace group featuring Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, and all-rounder James Neesham, giving New Zealand depth and variety in fast bowling. Kyle Jamieson has been named as the travelling reserve.
Fitness and Availability Updates
Several squad members are currently undergoing treatment for minor injuries, including Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, and captain Santner. Team management remains confident all will be fit before the tournament begins.
It has also been confirmed that Ferguson and Henry may briefly leave the squad during the event due to expected paternity leave, depending on personal circumstances.
