A decision has been taken to start the Matric annual examinations 2026 later than usual, primarily due to the holy month of Ramadan, according to education officials.
Sources say the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore has formally requested permission to begin the examinations from March 27. The final schedule will be announced after approval from the Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen (PBCC).
Officials indicated that the exams are expected to begin after the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, marking a shift from the traditional early-March schedule. If approved, this would mean a noticeable delay compared to previous years.
Students and Parents Raise Concerns
The proposed delay has sparked mixed reactions. Many students believe the papers should begin from March 1, with only a short Eid break of about one week to avoid unnecessary disruption.
Parents have also expressed concern, warning that delaying Matric exams could affect the overall academic calendar, including schedules for Intermediate and BA examinations, potentially creating pressure later in the year.
Education authorities, however, argue that holding exams during Ramadan could impact student performance and logistical arrangements, which is why the proposal to delay the exams is under consideration.
A final decision, including the official start date, is expected once the PBCC completes its review and issues formal approval.
