The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has once again decided to purchase new official vehicles worth millions of rupees, sparking debate over rising administrative expenses.
According to sources, preparations have been finalized for the procurement of 75 vehicles as part of the company’s latest acquisition plan.

Approval Granted for Cranes and Official Vehicles
LESCO’s management has approved the purchase of both heavy and light vehicles, including cranes, to support operational needs. The company’s Material Management Department has formally initiated the procurement process.
Sources revealed that the approval includes:
-
40 bucket cranes for line staff
-
1 double-cabin vehicle
-
10 single-cabin vehicles
-
24 small official vehicles
The purchase is aimed at strengthening field operations and improving administrative efficiency.
Previous Attempt Failed in November
It is worth noting that LESCO had also initiated a vehicle procurement process in November, but the purchase could not be completed at that time. Following that failure, the department has now accelerated the procurement process once again at the administrative level.
Questions Raised Over Rising Costs
While officials claim that the new vehicles will help improve field operations and service delivery, concerns are being raised by various quarters over increasing expenditures, especially at a time when power consumers continue to face high electricity bills.
The decision has once again brought attention to spending priorities within public sector utility companies.
