Lahore Police Issue Strict Guidelines Ahead of Basant Celebrations

As Basant celebrations return to Lahore under limited permission, SP City Bilal Ahmed has issued an important public message, urging citizens to strictly follow government-approved rules and safety guidelines.

According to Lahore Police, Basant will only be allowed from February 6 to February 8, and kite flying during this period will be permitted strictly under approved SOPs.

Basant Allowed for Limited Days Only

SP City Bilal Ahmed clarified that the Punjab government has granted permission for Basant celebrations for just three days. Any activity outside this timeframe will be treated as a violation of the law.

Authorities have warned that:

  • Unauthorized kite flying

  • Violation of safety protocols

  • Celebrations beyond approved dates

will result in immediate legal action.

Rooftop Misbehavior and Aerial Firing Strictly Banned

Police have made it clear that rooftop hooliganism, aerial firing, and other dangerous activities will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

SP City emphasized that such actions pose serious risks to public safety and will lead to strict enforcement measures, including arrests and fines.

Building Owners Held Responsible

In a significant move, police have collected surety bonds from rooftop and building owners across Lahore. This step ensures accountability if any illegal activity takes place from their premises during Basant.

If violations occur:

  • Property owners may face legal consequences

  • Bonds may be forfeited

  • FIRs can be registered

Chemical and Metallic Kite Strings Completely Banned

SP City Bilal Ahmed reiterated that the use of chemical-coated and metallic kite strings is completely prohibited due to their life-threatening nature.

Anyone found using or selling banned kite string materials will face:

  • Arrest

  • Heavy fines

  • Possible imprisonment

Kite and String Sales Restricted to Registered Sellers

From February 1 onward, only registered sellers will be allowed to sell kites and kite strings.

Police have warned that:

  • Unregistered sellers will face legal action

  • Illegal stalls will be sealed

  • Stock will be confiscated

This measure aims to control unsafe materials and ensure compliance with safety laws.

Basant Permission Limited to Lahore Only

Authorities have also clarified that Basant celebrations are permitted only within Lahore city limits. No permission has been granted for Basant in other districts.

Any attempt to organize or promote Basant outside Lahore will be dealt with strictly under the law.

Police Appeal for Responsible Celebration

SP City Bilal Ahmed urged citizens to celebrate Basant responsibly, prioritizing safety and cooperation with law enforcement.

He stressed that the goal is to allow people to enjoy the festival without risking lives or public order.
