Islamabad Introduces New Rules for Private School Registration

The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) has announced a fixed annual schedule for the registration and renewal of private educational institutions in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Under the new mechanism, all private educational institutions will be required to apply for renewal of registration between March 1 and April 30 every year.

According to PEIRA, renewal applications will be processed by June 30, while inspections, where necessary, will be carried out during May and June.

Institutions seeking new registration may submit applications throughout the year; however, approvals for new registrations will only be granted up to April 30.

PEIRA has also approved an optional extension of the registration renewal period from two years to three years, subject to advance payment of annual renewal fees for the full period and compliance with regulatory requirements under the 2024 rules.

The authority stated that the necessary amendments have been made to prevent regulatory fee losses and to ensure that the revised schedule aligns with the interests of stakeholders.

These decisions were taken under the powers granted by the Islamabad Capital Territory Private Educational Institutions (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2013.
