A viral notification circulating on social media has sparked confusion among parents, students, and teachers across Punjab. The message claims that the School Education Department has ordered the closure of all public and private schools from February 1 to February 10, 2026, in connection with the Basant Festival.
The alleged notice also mentions that school rooftops may be leased or auctioned for kite-flying activities and instructs education officials to ensure strict compliance.
No Official Notification Issued
After verification, it has been confirmed that no such notification has been issued by the Punjab government. Schools across the province will continue to operate according to their regular academic schedules.
No official announcement regarding extended holidays for Basant has been released through government portals, press statements, or education department circulars.
Education Minister’s Silence Confirms Rumor
Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, who regularly shares official updates on school holidays and timings through his verified social media accounts, has not posted any statement related to Basant-related closures.
This further indicates that the viral notification is false and misleading.
Officials Urge Public to Avoid Fake News
Education authorities have advised parents and students to rely only on verified government sources for updates. Sharing unverified information may create unnecessary panic and disrupt academic activities.
Citizens are encouraged to follow official platforms of the School Education Department and the Education Minister for authentic announcements.
Schools to Remain Open as Usual
As of now, all public and private schools in Punjab will remain fully operational in February 2026, with no special holidays announced for Basant.
