According to a 2023 report, 26-year-old Christine Satiyan is one of the residents of Umoja. She shared how her life changed after moving there.
After her marriage, the animals given as bride price were stolen. Her parents then asked her to return to her husband because they could not repay the dowry. With no other option, she chose to move to Umoja, where she found safety and freedom.
A Symbol of Strength and Independence
Today, Umoja has become a global symbol of women’s empowerment, courage, and self-respect. It shows that when women are given safety and opportunity, they can rebuild their lives and create a better future.
