Govt to Give Over Rs. 100 Billion Subsidy on Electric Vehicles Till 2030

The Government of Pakistan has started transferring subsidy amounts to successful applicants under the Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification (PAVE) Scheme for electric bikes and rickshaws.

The subsidy payments are being released under both the Self Finance Scheme and the Bank Finance Scheme, as approved by the Prime Minister, to support the adoption of electric bikes, rickshaws, and loaders nationwide.

🚲 What Is the PAVE Scheme?

The PAVE Scheme aims to:

  • Promote clean, affordable, and sustainable transport

  • Reduce Pakistan’s dependence on fossil fuels

  • Encourage local manufacturing of electric vehicles

Under this initiative, the government will provide a total subsidy of Rs. 100.36 billion over five years (2025–2030) for electric bikes, rickshaws, loaders, cars, buses, and trucks.

🏭 Phase-I: 41,000 Electric Vehicles

The Engineering Development Board (EDB), under the Ministry of Industries and Production, is implementing Phase-I of the Prime Minister’s EV Adoption Scheme as part of the New Energy Vehicles Policy (NEVP) 2025–2030.

Phase-I includes subsidies for:

  • 40,000 electric bikes

  • 1,000 electric rickshaws and loaders

🔄 Phase-II Expansion

In Phase-II, the government plans to facilitate:

  • 78,170 additional electric vehicles

  • Rs. 8.95 billion in subsidies

during 2025–26.

💰 How the Subsidy Works

✔️ Self Finance Scheme

Applicants pay the full price of the electric bike to the manufacturer. After verification:

  • A subsidy of up to Rs. 80,000

  • Is transferred directly to the applicant’s bank account

  • Through the State Bank of Pakistan

✔️ Bank Lease Scheme

Under this scheme:

  • Electric two- and three-wheelers are offered on easy monthly installments

  • Subsidized financing is provided through participating banks

🏦 Subsidy Payments Now Underway

Officials confirmed that:

  • Subsidies have already been transferred to the first batch of verified applicants

  • Further payments will continue in phases under the approved verification framework
