Government Prepares Pakistan’s Largest-Ever Ramadan Relief Package

The federal government has started preparations for what is expected to be the largest Ramadan relief package in Pakistan’s history, aimed at providing financial support to millions of citizens during the holy month.

According to official sources, the government plans to allocate more than Rs 110 billion for the upcoming Ramadan package. This initiative is expected to benefit nearly 10 million people, helping low-income families cope with rising inflation and essential food costs.

Who Will Be Eligible for the Relief Package?

Authorities are considering including individuals with monthly incomes below Rs 50,000 in the relief program. In addition, more than Rs 30 billion is proposed specifically to support financially vulnerable groups.

The Prime Minister has directed concerned departments to ensure that maximum relief reaches deserving citizens, including those who are not currently registered under existing welfare programs.

Provincial Governments Also Announce Support

Alongside federal efforts, provincial governments have also begun preparing their own relief plans:

  • Punjab: Rs 45 billion allocated

  • Sindh: Proposal of Rs 25 billion under review

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Rs 10–13 billion package in preparation

These provincial packages aim to complement the federal initiative and expand coverage nationwide.

Discounted Sugar & Essential Items in Ramadan Bazaars

Officials have confirmed that imported sugar and essential food items will be sold at subsidized rates through Ramadan bazaars and registered outlets. This step is designed to stabilize market prices and prevent profiteering during the holy month.

Registration Through 8070 SMS & BISP Database

To make the process transparent and accessible, citizens will be able to register through the 8070 SMS service. The government will also utilize BISP (Benazir Income Support Programme) data to identify eligible families.

Importantly, the Prime Minister has instructed authorities to include deserving individuals outside the BISP network, ensuring broader coverage.

Comparison with Last Year’s Package

Last year, the federal government provided a Rs 20 billion Ramadan relief package. The new proposal, exceeding Rs 110 billion, reflects a significant increase in social welfare spending amid economic challenges.

More details regarding distribution methods and timelines are expected to be announced soon.
