Gas consumers across Pakistan have received relief after the government confirmed that gas prices will not be increased.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Petroleum, with the petroleum minister stating that the decision has been taken on the instructions of the Prime Minister. He clarified that gas prices will remain unchanged from January 1, and no revision in tariffs is being planned at this stage.

While addressing the issue, the minister revealed that the gas sector is currently facing circular debt of nearly Rs. 3 trillion, a figure that also includes late payment surcharges.
He further shared that a detailed report on gas sector circular debt has already been submitted to the cabinet’s energy committee. The report was prepared and presented in line with requirements set under the International Monetary Fund program.
Despite the financial challenges in the gas sector, the government has decided not to pass the burden on consumers, offering temporary relief amid rising living costs.
