Future at PIA Will Depend on Performance, Arif Habib Tells Employees

Renowned businessman Arif Habib has reiterated his commitment to transforming Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) into a profitable airline, making it clear that employees’ future at the national carrier will depend strictly on performance.

Speaking to the media during the PCB Inter-Schools Final event in New Nazimabad, Arif Habib said that turning PIA into a financially viable airline remains the top priority. He emphasized that employees will be protected, acknowledging that it was the dedication of PIA staff that once made the airline one of the most successful in the world.

However, he delivered a clear message to the workforce, stating that only those who demonstrate performance will continue working at PIA, adding that there will be no compromise on efficiency and accountability.

Arif Habib also clarified that under the existing agreement, PIA’s name cannot be changed, dismissing speculation around rebranding.

Highlighting PIA’s potential market, he noted that around 14 million Pakistanis live abroad, and when combined with their families in Pakistan, the airline’s potential user base exceeds 70 million people. He said efforts will be made to encourage Pakistanis to prefer PIA for travel, especially for Hajj and Umrah operations, where the airline holds a strategic advantage.

He further said that, similar to initiatives at New Nazimabad, sports development will also be encouraged within PIA, though reviving sports activities at the airline will take time.

Arif Habib welcomed the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to host the Inter-Schools Final at New Nazimabad, noting that the area offers facilities for cricket, badminton, swimming, table tennis, football, and other sports.

At the event, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi distributed prizes to the participants, while Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood was also present.
