The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has issued an alert over a potential flood situation in the Kabul River, warning of an increased risk of flash flooding in the river and its associated streams.
According to the FFC, a strong western weather system is expected to affect Pakistan’s upper regions from January 21 to January 24, raising concerns about heavy rainfall and snowfall.

Risk of Increased Water Flow
The commission stated that water levels in the Kabul River are likely to rise on January 22 and 23, increasing the possibility of flash floods, particularly in vulnerable areas.
Heavy rain and snowfall are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir, which could lead to flooding in rivers, streams, and hill torrents.
Districts Placed on Alert
An alert has been issued for several districts, including:
-
Swat
-
Chitral
-
Dir
-
Malakand
-
Mansehra
Local authorities have been advised to remain vigilant as intense rainfall could cause rapid water flow in mountainous streams.
Emergency Preparedness Ordered
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and district administrations have been instructed to take preemptive safety measures to protect human lives as well as public and private property.
The Irrigation Department and other relevant agencies have been directed to ensure full emergency preparedness and remain on high alert during the forecast period.
Situation Under Close Monitoring
The Federal Flood Commission has emphasized that it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to issue updates as weather conditions evolve.
Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone and mountainous areas to exercise caution and follow official advisories during the coming days.
