Islamabad, Pakistan – November 19, 2026: Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, conducted an on-site inspection of the M-5 Motorway near Jalalpur Pirwala on Tuesday, to evaluate the ongoing repair and restoration efforts following recent flood damage.
During his visit, the minister ordered the National Highway Authority (NHA) to ensure that one-way traffic on the motorway is restored by November 30, emphasizing that commuters’ inconvenience must be minimized immediately. He carefully reviewed the rehabilitation progress and instructed NHA engineers to uphold strict quality standards throughout the repair work.
“The government will not tolerate substandard work at any stage,” Khan said, underlining the importance of timely and quality repairs. Officials have also been directed to submit a detailed progress report within a week, with the minister planning a follow-up inspection to monitor completion.
Rest Areas and Traveler Services Under Scrutiny
The minister also inspected rest houses and roadside facilities along the M-5 corridor. Expressing dissatisfaction with their condition, he reprimanded responsible officials and called for immediate improvement. He stressed that every traveler deserves clean restrooms, well-stocked tuck shops, and properly maintained amenities.
Khan reiterated that the Ministry of Communications is committed to restoring the full functionality of the M-5 Motorway as quickly as possible. NHA officials briefed him on the status of ongoing repair operations and the challenges faced in flood-affected areas.
Impact on Commuters
The M-5 Motorway serves as a vital transportation link for commuters and freight across Pakistan. Restoring traffic and maintaining facilities on this route is crucial to ensure safe and comfortable travel for both local and long-distance travelers. With the government’s strict monitoring, commuters can expect enhanced safety, better travel experience, and hygienic roadside facilities in the near future.
