Crackdown on Vehicles With OEM Tinted Glass Suspended

Authorities have suspended the ongoing crackdown against vehicles fitted with factory-installed (OEM) tinted glass following an amendment to the Motor Vehicle Ordinance.

According to the Deputy Inspector General (Traffic), side and rear windows fitted with OEM tinted glass are not illegal under current traffic laws. As a result, traffic officers have been instructed not to issue fines or register cases against vehicles equipped with factory-fitted tinted windows.

The DIG clarified that enforcement action should only be taken against aftermarket or illegally installed tinted glass. Vehicles that come with tinted windows installed by manufacturers at the factory level are exempt from penalties.

Formal instructions have been issued to traffic police units across Lahore and the rest of Punjab, directing them to strictly follow the revised policy. The clarification comes after complaints from vehicle owners who were previously fined despite having OEM-installed tinted glass.

Officials acknowledged that earlier enforcement drives had included action against such vehicles, but the recent legal amendment has prompted a policy correction to align enforcement with the law.

The Punjab Traffic Police has advised motorists to ensure that no additional or unauthorized tinting is applied, as violations involving non-OEM glass will continue to face strict action.
