Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has officially launched development work under the flagship initiative “Maryam Nawaz Ka Sohna Punjab”, aimed at transforming urban infrastructure and improving civic services across 51 cities in the province.
Chairing a high-level meeting, the chief minister directed authorities to complete the first phase by June 2026, with special focus on strengthening sewerage systems and core municipal facilities.
Direct Oversight for Transparency and Speed
CM Maryam has assumed direct supervision of the Punjab Development Plan to ensure transparency, efficiency, and timely completion. To enhance monitoring, the provincial government is setting up central and district-level control rooms for real-time project tracking and public complaint resolution.
These control centers will help authorities respond quickly to issues and maintain quality standards.
Massive Infrastructure Expansion Underway
Under the “Sohna Punjab” program, the government plans to:

Construct 5,887 kilometers of sewerage lines

Develop 181 drainage channels

Install over 33,000 manhole covers

Produce and deploy HDPE sewerage pipes
These upgrades are expected to significantly reduce urban flooding, sanitation problems, and infrastructure breakdowns.
City-Wise Development Initiatives
Deputy commissioners presented city-specific plans to the chief minister. Major projects include:

Multan: Expansion of sewerage and road networks

Gujranwala: Largest-ever development package

Dera Ghazi Khan: Rs 12 billion+ sewerage and drainage projects

Bhakkar: Sanitation upgrades, parks, and solar-powered disposal stations

Vehari, Sheikhupura, Kasur: Ongoing infrastructure and cleanliness drives
CM Maryam also ordered immediate improvements in cleanliness in Sheikhupura and Pattoki and praised the renovation of Kasur DHQ Hospital.
Swift Response to Snowfall in Murree
Under her leadership, the provincial administration successfully restored normal life in Murree after nearly 30 hours of heavy snowfall. Authorities cleared 185 kilometers of roads using modern machinery, allowing traffic and tourism to resume.
The chief minister commended field teams for their rapid and coordinated response.
Condolences Over Daska Tragedy
Separately, CM Maryam expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident in Daska that claimed five lives, including children. She extended condolences to the affected families and directed officials to provide support.
