Chery Tiggo SUVs to Get New Hybrid System with Claimed 2,000 KM Range

Chinese automaker Chery has unveiled the next generation of its Super Hybrid plug-in hybrid system, claiming an impressive combined driving range of up to 2,000 kilometers on a full fuel tank and fully charged battery.

If introduced in Pakistan, this technology could significantly change the hybrid SUV segment, especially at a time when fuel prices remain high and consumers are looking for better efficiency.

Which Tiggo Models Will Get the New Hybrid?

The new system is expected to power future versions of:

  • Chery Tiggo 7

  • Chery Tiggo 8

  • Chery Tiggo 9

In Pakistan, Chery has already introduced the Tiggo 8 PHEV and recently launched the Tiggo 9 PHEV, while the Tiggo 7 PHEV is also expected to enter the local market.

Although official confirmation for Pakistan is still pending, industry experts believe the new hybrid setup could eventually be offered in upcoming models.

What Makes This Hybrid System Different?

At the heart of the system is:

  • A 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine

  • Paired with a high-output electric motor

  • A new 18.46 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery

Chery claims the upgraded battery offers:

  • Higher energy density

  • Improved durability

  • Better thermal stability

The petrol engine’s thermal efficiency has reportedly reached 44.5 percent, which is considered very high for internal combustion engines.

The transmission has also been enhanced to maximize energy efficiency and smoother power delivery.

Two Power Variants – DHT160 & DHT230

Chery will offer two versions of the system:

🔹 DHT160

  • 160 kW power output

  • 275 Nm torque

🔹 DHT230

  • 260 kW power output

  • 330 Nm torque

The higher DHT230 variant could offer performance similar to larger petrol SUVs while maintaining strong fuel economy.

What Could This Mean for Pakistan?

Pakistan’s SUV market has been shifting toward:

  • Hybrid vehicles

  • Fuel-efficient crossovers

  • Premium yet economical family SUVs

With petrol prices fluctuating and import restrictions impacting vehicle availability, a 2,000 km claimed range could attract strong interest from:

  • Long-distance travelers

  • Inter-city commuters

  • Fleet buyers

  • Large families

However, real-world range figures in Pakistani driving conditions may differ from official claims.

When Will It Launch in Pakistan?

Chery has not officially announced a launch timeline for Pakistan.

The system is expected to debut in China this year. If successful there, it may gradually enter international markets, including Pakistan.

Given Chery’s recent expansion in Pakistan’s hybrid SUV segment, local introduction remains a strong possibility.
