Bangladesh Announce T20 World Cup 2026

Bangladesh have officially announced their 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, with Litton Das named as captain, even as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) continues to push for a change in venues for matches scheduled in India.

The squad announcement comes amid ongoing discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC), as the BCB has requested that Bangladesh’s India-based World Cup fixtures be shifted to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns for its players.

Bangladesh have been placed in Group C for the tournament. As per the current ICC schedule, they are set to open their campaign against the West Indies on February 7 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, followed by matches against Italy and England at the same venue on February 9 and 14. Their final group match is scheduled against Nepal on February 17 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

However, the venues remain uncertain from Bangladesh’s standpoint. The BCB has formally written to the ICC requesting that matches scheduled in India be relocated to Sri Lanka, the tournament’s co-host, due to concerns over player safety.

The issue gained momentum after Mustafizur Rahman was released from the IPL by Kolkata Knight Riders following directions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The decision prompted the BCB to raise questions about the broader security environment and seek assurances from the ICC regarding protections for the national team.

The ICC has yet to announce a final decision on Bangladesh’s venue request, while preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026 continue.
