Electricity consumers across Pakistan may face higher bills as power distribution companies have submitted a request to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for an increase under the quarterly adjustment mechanism.
According to details, companies are seeking recovery of approximately Rs 10.83 billion from consumers as part of the second quarterly adjustment of the current fiscal year.
Breakdown of the Request
The application includes:
-
Rs 24.25 billion requested under capacity charges
-
A reduction claim of Rs 1.655 billion under operations and maintenance
The final per-unit adjustment will be determined by NEPRA after reviewing the data.
Who Will Be Affected
The proposed adjustment covers the period from October to December 2025 and will also apply to consumers of K-Electric.
Hearing Date Announced
NEPRA has scheduled a hearing on February 17, where stakeholders will present their case. After the hearing, the regulator will decide whether the requested amount can be passed on to consumers.
What This Means for Consumers
Quarterly adjustments are meant to reflect changes in fuel costs and system expenses. However, such increases add pressure on household and business budgets, especially amid rising living costs.
Consumers are advised to monitor the outcome of the hearing, as the decision will determine the final impact on electricity bills.
