Allama Iqbal Open University has introduced a new subject-based two-year degree program, offering students a shorter academic pathway to earn a degree in a specific discipline.
According to university officials, the program has been designed especially for students who are unable to pursue a full four-year degree. Under the new scheme, students will be able to complete their degree within two years and graduate in their chosen subject.

The university further clarified that after completing the two-year program, students will have the option to continue their education by enrolling directly in the fifth semester of the relevant honours program, allowing them to progress toward a full four-year degree if they wish.
This newly launched program is different from the existing two-year Associate Degree, and has been introduced in response to lower enrollment trends in traditional four-year degree programs. The initiative aims to make higher education more accessible and flexible for students with time, financial, or professional constraints.
University officials say the new structure will provide greater academic flexibility and enable students to obtain a recognized degree in less time, while still keeping the door open for further studies.
