India’s cricket camp has faced a sudden health concern as opener Abhishek Sharma was admitted to hospital due to a stomach infection, casting doubt over his participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup match against Namibia.
According to Indian media reports, the batter was already feeling unwell before the match against the USA but still played. However, his condition reportedly worsened afterward.
Fever and Medical Treatment
Sources say Abhishek had a high fever and was given intravenous drips as part of initial treatment. He did not attend the practice session held at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
He has now been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi, where medical tests are being conducted to determine the exact nature of the infection.
Signs of Discomfort During Last Match
During the match against the USA, Abhishek was dismissed on the very first ball. He also did not return to the field for fielding duties, with Sanju Samson taking his place. He was also absent from the post-match handshake ceremony, raising concerns about his health.
Team Management Response
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said Abhishek is facing stomach-related issues but expressed hope he could recover within two days. However, a BCCI official indicated that his participation in the Namibia match remains uncertain.
Other Team Updates
On a positive note, Washington Sundar has rejoined the squad, while Jasprit Bumrah has resumed bowling after a 10-day break and is reportedly feeling better.
Team management remains hopeful that key players will regain full fitness ahead of crucial matches.
