Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has confirmed that the long-awaited Karimabad Underpass will be completed within the next two and a half months, promising much-needed traffic relief for citizens.

🚧 Green Line Delays Criticized

Speaking on a news channel, Wahab criticized delays in the federal government’s Green Line project, which first received an NOC in 2017 but is only now resuming work in 2026.

“After eight years, they are still claiming they are right and the mayor is wrong,” Wahab remarked.

He further said the project left MA Jinnah Road in poor shape, with damaged streetlights and sewage systems. He also pointed out that the promised Green Line Tower was never built.

🏗️ Timeline Dispute

The mayor revealed that he received a letter on July 7, 2026 about restarting the Green Line. In response, he demanded that unfinished work be completed first and asked for a clear project timeline.

“To this day, we haven’t received a response. Does a federal agency have the right to bypass the local government?” he questioned.

🔴 Red Line Concerns

Wahab also highlighted rising costs in the Red Line project, saying the original contract rate has increased and technical issues must be resolved soon to avoid further financial burden.

🛣️ Road Repairs Across Karachi

In addition to the Karimabad Underpass, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is repairing 106 roads across the city. Wahab assured that all will be completed within the next two months, and any non-compliant contractors will be blacklisted.

✅ What This Means for Citizens

  • Traffic relief once underpass opens

  • Improved road conditions with 106 repairs underway

  • Accountability promised for contractors delaying projects

Karachiites can expect better connectivity and smoother traffic flow as the city pushes to complete key infrastructure projects by the end of 2026.
