After years of anticipation, Pakistan is moving closer to launching 5G services, as preparations for the long-awaited spectrum auction have reached their final stage.
A senior official of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority confirmed that all core preparations for the 5G auction have been completed, and the full spectrum auction design is ready. The official said the framework has been structured to allow phased and scalable expansion, while minimum quality-of-service benchmarks have also been clearly defined.
Largest Telecom Auction in Pakistan’s History
The upcoming auction is expected to be the largest in Pakistan’s telecom history, with nearly 600 MHz of spectrum set to be offered. The government is projected to generate at least $630 million in non-tax revenue from the auction.
Following the auction, mobile operators will receive technology-neutral licenses valid for 15 years, giving them flexibility in deploying future-ready networks.
Phased 5G Rollout Plan
Officials said the 5G rollout will follow a limited and phased approach, in line with global practices. In the first phase, operators will be required to deliver minimum download speeds of 50 Mbps.
Initial deployment will focus on major urban centers and high-demand zones, where 5G-compatible devices are already widely available.

Officials stressed that nationwide expansion will follow gradually after the initial launch.
