Preparations for introducing new currency notes in Pakistan have been completed, with final approval now awaited from the federal government.
According to reports, the State Bank of Pakistan has finalized the shortlisting of new banknote designs and forwarded them to the government for approval. Once clearance is granted, the formal process of printing the new currency will begin.

Officials at the Security Printing Corporation of Pakistan confirmed that the upcoming notes will feature modern and enhanced security features to prevent counterfeiting. However, the final approved designs have not yet been officially shared with the printing authority.
Senior Manager Printing Aamir Shams stated that consultations between the State Bank and the Security Printing Corporation have already taken place. He added that once approval is received, printing the new currency will require at least two months, as advanced printing machinery is already in place.

Authorities are still considering whether the new designs will be released in phases or if all denominations will be introduced simultaneously. A formal timeline for printing and issuance is expected to be announced by the State Bank later this year.
Sources said that the official printing order can only be issued after federal cabinet approval. If cleared, the circulation of newly designed currency notes could begin in the final months of 2026.
The move is being seen as a key step toward strengthening currency security and modernizing Pakistan’s banknote system.
