Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has publicly urged Virat Kohli to reconsider his decision to retire from Test cricket, ahead of India’s upcoming series against New Zealand.
Uthappa shared an image of Kohli during a net practice session on social media and accompanied it with a direct message calling for his return to the longest format of the game. Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Uthappa stated that the time had come for Kohli to withdraw his Test retirement and make a comeback.
Virat Kohli had announced his retirement from Test cricket in 2026, shortly before India’s series against England, bringing an end to a celebrated red-ball career that spanned over a decade. Since then, Kohli has remained active only in the One Day International (ODI) format.
The former Indian captain is currently set to feature in the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, where expectations remain high for another strong performance.
Uthappa’s message has sparked renewed discussion among fans and cricket analysts, many of whom believe Kohli’s experience and form could still add immense value to India’s Test setup.
