Meta Platforms is preparing to introduce a new profile customization feature on WhatsApp, allowing users to add a cover photo alongside their profile picture — similar to Facebook.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the feature has been spotted in the latest WhatsApp iOS beta version. With this update, users will be able to display a cover image above their profile photo, adding a new layer of personalization to their accounts.

How the Cover Photo Feature Works
To accommodate the new option, WhatsApp is expanding the space above the profile picture. A banner-style layout will appear at the top of the profile, where users can upload a cover photo.
The process of adding a cover image will be similar to Facebook’s cover photo setup. Users will be able to tap on the designated cover area, select an image from their gallery, and upload it. The cover photo can be changed at any time, and it will remain enabled within profile settings.
Once added, the cover photo will be visible to people who view the user’s profile, offering a more expressive and visually rich profile experience.
From Business Accounts to Personal Users
Until now, the cover photo option was limited to WhatsApp Business accounts. The upcoming update will extend this feature to individual users, signaling WhatsApp’s broader push toward enhanced customization for personal profiles.
While the feature is currently in beta testing, it is expected to roll out to the wider user base in a future update after testing is complete.
The move reflects Meta’s ongoing effort to bring successful features across its platforms and make WhatsApp profiles more engaging and interactive.
