An important development has emerged regarding retired employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) following the airline’s privatization.
PIA management has decided to continue medical facilities for retired employees through State Life Insurance, ensuring access to treatment at panel hospitals.

Written Instructions Issued
State Life Insurance has already issued written instructions for retired PIA employees. The medical coverage will also include laboratory services, and all panel hospitals and laboratories have been formally informed to extend these facilities without interruption.
Background of Privatization
On December 23, 2026, the Arif Habib Consortium won the bid for PIA’s privatization after submitting the highest offer of Rs. 135 billion.
Following the takeover, on January 1, 2026, prominent businessman Arif Habib addressed PIA’s existing workforce, stating that making the airline profitable is the top priority, while employee protection will remain a key focus.
He emphasized that employees are the airline’s real strength and clarified that job continuity will depend on performance, adding that only those who deliver results will remain part of the organization. He also confirmed that the airline’s name cannot be changed under the privatization agreement.
