Several cities across Punjab, including Rawalpindi, remain in the grip of severe cold weather as winter vacations near their end and schools are scheduled to reopen next week.
The persistent cold has raised serious concerns among parents, many of whom say sending children to school early in the morning during such harsh conditions will be extremely difficult. Parents have particularly expressed worries about the health of younger children, who are more vulnerable to low temperatures.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the cold spell is expected to intensify further in the coming days. Forecasts indicate continued cold winds, fog, and low temperatures across much of the province, especially during morning hours.
Parents and citizens have urged the government to reconsider the decision to reopen schools, calling for either an extension in winter holidays or relaxed school timings to reduce exposure to extreme cold. They stress that while education is important, children’s health and safety must remain the top priority.
So far, no official announcement has been made regarding a change in the reopening schedule of schools. However, pressure from parents and teachers continues to grow, with many calling for an immediate review of the situation.
Citizens warn that if severe cold conditions persist, the government may need to take prompt and practical measures to safeguard students while ensuring continuity in education.
