Students and parents across Sindh can finally breathe a sigh of relief as clarity has emerged regarding the reopening of educational institutions tomorrow.
Following the decision by private school associations in Sindh to withdraw their strike call, all private educational institutions across the province will remain open on Friday, January 9.

Why the Strike Was Called Off
The development came after the Anti-Corruption Department took notice of complaints raised by private schools regarding the verification of free-ship (fee concession) data.
During meetings with the Sindh Education Minister and the Chairman Anti-Corruption, concerns raised by school administrations were acknowledged. Authorities assured school owners that neither parents nor school administrations would face harassment or unnecessary trouble in any district of Sindh.
Following these assurances, private school associations officially announced the withdrawal of the strike, confirming that academic activities will continue as normal.
Background of the Issue
Earlier, a grand alliance of school associations had announced a province-wide shutdown of private schools and colleges on January 9, expressing serious reservations over ongoing verification visits by Anti-Corruption teams.
School representatives argued that:
-
Education is the foundation of national development.
-
Despite limited resources, private schools educate millions of children at affordable fees.
-
Many institutions provide free-ship and concessions as a social responsibility, especially in a province where millions of children remain out of school.
Legal Concerns Raised by Schools
School associations also highlighted that under the Sindh Private Institutions Act 2013, only the Directorate of Private Institutions is the authorized regulatory body. They termed direct inspections by Anti-Corruption teams as legally questionable and unnecessary.
Following the Sindh High Court Sukkur Bench’s December 8, 2026 ruling regarding free-ship verification, Anti-Corruption teams had started on-ground inspections, which triggered protests and strike threats.
What Happens Next
School leaders have indicated that:
-
Legal options may still be pursued to clarify regulatory authority.
-
Dialogue with the government will continue to avoid disruption to students’ education.
-
Joint consultative meetings with parents and school administrations will be held if needed.
Final Word for Students & Parents
For now, the message is clear:
✅ All private schools in Sindh will remain open tomorrow
✅ No strike, no closures
✅ Classes will continue as scheduled
Parents are advised to send their children to school as usual and rely only on official announcements to avoid confusion.
