The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has witnessed open internal differences over the decision to boycott the by-election in PP-167 Lahore, effectively splitting the party into two clear camps.
According to sources, disagreement surfaced after the party’s political committee decided to boycott the PP-167 by-election. Several senior leaders within PTI believe the decision was misaligned with party policy and should not have been taken.

Sources said these leaders argue that the party founder had issued boycott instructions only for constituencies where elected members were disqualified following convictions. They maintain that PP-167 does not fall under this category, making the boycott decision questionable.
Calls for Review of Decision
Insiders revealed that dissenting leaders plan to formally propose a review of the boycott decision before the party’s political committee. They cited the example of NA-129, stating that similar constituencies were not included in the boycott policy and that PP-167 should be treated the same way.
It is worth noting that the official announcement regarding non-participation in the by-election was made by PTI’s central information secretary, which further intensified internal debate.
Background of the By-Election
The Punjab Assembly seat PP-167 fell vacant following the death of a leader from the Pakistan Muslim League (N).
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has issued the election schedule, confirming that polling in PP-167 will take place on February 4.
With differences continuing to grow, observers say the episode has raised fresh questions about decision-making and unity within PTI, particularly at a time when electoral strategy remains critical for the party.
