The Karachi administration has imposed a two-month ban on road and footpath cutting across the city to curb unauthorized excavation and reduce traffic disruption.
A notification issued by Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi confirmed that the ban will remain in effect until March 2. The restriction applies to all utility service providers, individuals, and development projects operating within the city.

According to the notification, the move aims to stop illegal digging of roads and footpaths, which often leads to traffic congestion, safety hazards, and damage to public infrastructure.
However, certain activities have been exempted from the ban. These include works carried out by local government departments and excavations that have formal approval from the Sindh government, provided they strictly follow traffic management guidelines issued by traffic police.
To ensure enforcement, the administration has imposed Section 144 across Karachi. The notification clearly warns that violators will face legal action, including the registration of criminal cases.
Authorities said the temporary restriction is intended to protect public infrastructure and ensure smoother traffic flow during the enforcement period.
