PCB Will Run Multan Sultans in PSL 11, Confirms Chairman

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that it will take over the operational control of Multan Sultans for the upcoming Pakistan Super League 2026 (PSL 11) season.

The decision was announced by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi during a press briefing, where he clarified that the board will act as the interim operator of the franchise for the next edition of the league. The process to auction new ownership of the Multan franchise will be carried out after the conclusion of PSL 11.

Naqvi stated that the PCB will directly manage all affairs of Multan Sultans during the season, and added that the head of the franchise for PSL 11 will be appointed within the next ten days.

During the briefing, the chairman also disclosed that a proposal has been floated to advance the start of PSL 11 to March 23, instead of the originally planned March 26. He noted that the revised schedule would only be finalized if all franchises reach a mutual agreement.

In a separate announcement, Wasim Akram has been named the brand ambassador of the Pakistan Super League. The former Pakistan captain will also perform the role of auctioneer during the teams’ auction, adding further prominence to the league’s commercial proceedings.

Meanwhile, former Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen and the Tareen Group are preparing to enter the bidding process for a new PSL franchise, potentially targeting one of the additional teams expected to join the league in the near future.

Sources have also indicated that Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy of Multan Sultans may come under review. With the PCB assuming temporary control, discussions around changes to the team’s leadership structure are reportedly part of the transition planning ahead of PSL 11.
