Authorities in Karachi have expanded the ban on two-seater and four-seater rickshaws, adding six more major roads to the existing restrictions in an effort to reduce growing traffic congestion in the city.
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi confirmed the move after receiving a formal recommendation from DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah. The order has been implemented under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

Officials noted that the provincial government had already restricted rickshaw movement on 20 major roads through a notification issued on October 17, 2026. With the new directive, the total number of restricted roads has now increased to 26, including Shahrah-e-Faisal.
The updated list of restricted roads includes:
Sharea Faisal, II Chundrigar Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Shershah Suri Road, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Abdullah Haroon Road to Do Talwar, Shahrah-e-Firdousi, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Mauripur Road, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Hub River Road, Quaidabad to Landhi 89, University Road, Korangi Road (FTC to Qayyumabad), Korangi Road (Qayyumabad to Korangi Crossing), Orangi Road, Super Highway to Malir Halt, and Surjani to Sohrab Goth.
The decision follows weeks of severe congestion and public frustration over clogged intersections and long delays, especially during peak business hours.
In related measures, the Sindh government has also placed a daytime ban on heavy vehicles and introduced a 30 km/h speed limit for heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) to ease pressure on major traffic corridors.
Officials say the expanded rickshaw ban aims to improve traffic flow and support broader city-wide traffic management reforms.
