State Bank of Pakistan Issues Clarification on New Currency Notes

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has confirmed that no newly designed currency notes have been released for general circulation so far.

All existing Pakistani banknotes — Rs. 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, and 5,000 — remain valid legal tender.

SBP also clarified that social media videos claiming a “new Rs. 1,000 note” are fake and not issued by the bank.

Future Redesign Plan

SBP and the federal government are working on new banknote designs with:

  • Advanced anti-counterfeit security features
  • Cultural and historical themes
  • Representation of Pakistan’s diversity
  • Concepts like women’s contribution and climate awareness

The cabinet has approved redesigns for:

✔ Rs. 100
✔ Rs. 500
✔ Rs. 1,000
✔ Rs. 5,000

When Will New Notes Come?

  • Printing will begin after final approvals
  • Multiple denominations may be printed together
  • Notes will be introduced gradually
  • No official launch date yet

Fresh Notes vs. New Designs

SBP continues issuing fresh-condition notes (same old design) before events like Eid.

These are not new designs — just newly printed notes for circulation.

What This Means for Citizens

✔ Your current notes remain valid
✔ Ignore social media rumors
✔ New notes will come gradually in future
✔ Old notes will stay acceptable for a long time
