Chicken Prices Increase as Basant Festival Drives High Demand

The ongoing Basant festival has led to a noticeable rise in chicken and meat prices in Lahore and other cities, as demand surges during celebrations.

Market sources report that broiler meat prices have increased by Rs 8 per kg, while over the past two days, the cumulative rise has reached Rs 29 per kg.

Current Chicken Price Details

The official price of broiler chicken meat has been set at Rs 548 per kilogram. According to farm rates, the price of live broiler chicken stands at Rs 350 per kg, but due to limited supply, sellers are receiving stock at around Rs 360 per kg.

Wholesale rates are reported at Rs 364 per kg, while the retail price has reached Rs 378 per kg in various markets.

Egg Prices Remain Stable

Unlike chicken meat, farm egg prices have remained stable at Rs 337 per dozen, offering some relief to consumers.

Why Prices Are Rising

Experts say that Basant celebrations typically lead to higher consumption of chicken and meat products, increasing market demand. Temporary supply pressures further contribute to price adjustments.

Authorities Monitoring the Situation

Local administration and market authorities are monitoring the situation to prevent profiteering and ensure that essential food items remain available at reasonable rates.

Officials aim to balance demand and supply so that consumers are not burdened with excessive price hikes during the festive season.
