In a heart-warming incident from China, an 8-year-old boy regained consciousness after 55 days in a coma — after hearing the voices of his schoolmates.
The child, Liu Zexi, belongs to Yueyang city in China’s Hunan province. He fell into a coma following a serious car accident in November last year, which caused severe brain damage and lung injuries. Doctors had informed the family that his chances of waking up were extremely low.
However, Liu’s mother refused to give up hope.
Medical experts suggested that familiar voices and favorite sounds can stimulate specific parts of the brain, potentially helping coma patients regain consciousness. Acting on this advice, Liu’s mother began playing school music, morning exercise tunes, and recorded lessons beside his hospital bed every day.
Liu’s school teacher also organized his classmates to record emotional video messages for him.
In one video, a child said:
“Zexi, wake up soon. Let’s play football together.”
Another classmate said:
“We all miss you, Zexi. If you can hear us, please open your eyes. Exams are coming, and we’re waiting for you to return and study with us.”
One student sang Liu’s favorite song, while others shared fun stories from class. Liu’s mother continued playing these recordings daily, including math lessons and his teacher’s voice.
After five days, Liu responded by moving his eyelids. A few days later, when he heard his teacher’s voice, he smiled. On the 55th day, Liu fully regained consciousness and was able to move his left hand.
Following his recovery, Liu’s teacher and classmates visited him at the hospital, bringing toys and greeting cards, celebrating what many are calling a miracle driven by love, hope, and human connection.
